Taner Akyol was born in 1977 in Bursa, the fourth largest city in Turkey.
He began playing baglama in his primary school years, and later studied
with Yasar Kemal Alim in Bursa. At the age of 14, Taner was accepted into
a secondary school for music. Four years later he graduated with a specialty
in violin. Already during this time he was performing in choirs and ensembles
as a professional baglama player, gaining more experience and improving
his technique. In 1996 the young artist moved to Berlin, where in the
same year he gave his first solo concert in the city. A commission followed
from the Kreuzberg Music School for the “Soundworkshop 1997 –
New Music in Kreuzberg.” In the winter semester 1997/98, Akyol was
admitted to the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin and began composition
studies with Professor Hanspeter Kyburz. In the same year, he took part
in an international master class for composition at the “Brandenburg
Colloquium for New Music.” This was followed in 1998 by an invitation
to the festival “Istanbul in Berlin,” where three of his compositions
were performed by the new music group Ensemble-Mosaik.
Taner Akyol received the best soloist award at the
third “Music Awards of Cultures in Berlin,” the “MusicaVitale
’98.” In 1999 Akyol received the third prize in composition
from the “Hanns Eisler Award” for composition and interpretation
of contemporary music. In the following year he founded with friends the
intercultural ensemble “Cornocopia.” In 2002 Akyol participated
as a jury member for the baglama division of the 39th youth music competition
“Jugend musiziert.” In 2003 he completed his studies at the
Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin, receiving a diploma in composition.
In the following year he began further studies as a masters student at the
Berlin University of the Arts with Professor Walter Zimmerman. He concluded
these studies in Summer 2006. Since 2004 he has been the director of the
“ta Musikatelier” in the Dieffenbachstrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

er erfolgreich mit Fachabitur und dem Hauptfach Geige ab. Schon in dieser
Zeit spielt er in Chören und Ensembles als professioneller Baglamaspieler.
Dabei sammelt er viele Erfahrungen und kann zusätzlich seine Spielkunst
weiter verfeinern. 1996 zieht es den jungen Künstler nach Berlin.
Noch im gleichen Jahr gibt er sein erstes Solokonzert in der Stadt. Es
folgt ein Auftrag der Musikschule Kreuzberg für die „Klangwerkstatt
1997 – Neue Musik in Kreuzberg“.
Zum Wintersemester 1997/98 besteht Akyol die Aufnahmeprüfung an der
Hanns-Eisler-Musikhochschule und nimmt sein Studium der Komposition bei
Prof. Kyburz auf. Im selben Jahr nimmt er am internationalem Meisterkurs
für Komposition am „Brandenburgischen Colloquium für Neue
Musik“ teil und folgt 1998 einer Einladung zum Festival „Istanbul
in Berlin“, wo drei seiner Kompositionen vom Ensemble-Mosaik für
„Neue Musik“ vorgetragen werden.
Taner Akyol erhält den ersten Solistenpreis bei dem „3. Musikpreis
der Kulturen in Berlin 1998“, dem „MusicaVitale´98“.
1999 bekommt Akyol den dritten Preis für Komposition des Hanns-Eisler-Preises
für Komposition und Interpretation zeitgenössischer Musik. Im
darauf folgenden Jahr gründet er mit Freunden das interkulturelle
Ensemble „Cornocopia“. Im Jahr 2002 nimmt Akyol als Jurymitglied
für die Fachrichtung Baglama am 39. Wettbewerb von „Jugend
musiziert“ teil. Mit dem Jahr 2003 schließt er das Hochschulstudium
an der Hanns-Eisler-Musikhochschule erfolgreich als Diplom-Komponist ab.
Im Jahr darauf beginnt er ein Zusatzstudium als Meisterschüler an
der Universität der Künste bei Herrn Prof. Zimmermann, das er
im Sommer 2006 abschließt. Seit 2004 leitet er das „ta Musikatelier“
in der Dieffenbachstraße in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
